Shimmer Woodfired Teapot
Shimmer Woodfired Teapot
"All that glitters is not gold" -- Shakespeare
In the case of this teapot, it truly is not. The shimmer on this pot was achieved by hand carving hundreds of small indentations onto the surface of the pot, before wood-firing it for multiple days.
That said, what perhaps what is most impressive about this hand-made pot is the extremely clean silhouette it cuts. Its inset lid is completely flushed with the body- something requiring exceptional skill at every stage. It comes as no surprise that this pot is "air-tight", meaning to say that the flow of tea can be cut-off by placing your finger on the hole on the lid.
Handmade by Huang Yu Wen, the pot has a hand-built honeycomb filter that keeps tea leaves from escaping.
As this pot is and unglazed wood-fired piece, as mentioned earlier, it will season very slowly over time. As such, depending on your preference, you can choose to limit its use to one type of tea.
To take care of this pot, rinse with hot water and hand-wash only without soap or detergent.
